Jakarta, September 4, 2024 – The Ministry of Industry, in collaboration with the Center for Sustainability and Waste Management at Universitas Indonesia (CSWM UI), is set to organize a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to identify the potential for implementing circular economy practices in the glass and ceramic sectors. This event was held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024at Harris Hotel & Convention Cibinong City Mall, Bogor, West Java in a hybrid format.

The FGD aims to bring together key stakeholders, including representatives from glass and ceramic industries, associations, and government bodies, to discuss opportunities and challenges in adopting sustainable practices in these sectors. Within this FGD, Adream Bais Junior, as the leader of the project from CSWM UI, also present the up and coming draft about the circular economy of glass and ceramics industry to capture the landscape on technical and financial mechanism for both industry within the scope of circularity of the products and manufacturing process potentials.

Through the FGD session and comparative research study of other countries’ circular economy within the glass and ceramics industry, CSWM UI gathers insights on the existing problems, potential ideas and solutions on how Indonesia can develop the regulation towards a more green industry through the regulation of the Ministry of Industry. By capturing the insights, the Ministry of Industry and CSWM UI will be able to come up with a best and suitable solution to regulate the circularity of glass and ceramic products in Indonesia.

“The shift towards a circular economy is not merely an option; it is a necessity for sustainable growth. In the glass and ceramic sectors, this transformation presents a unique opportunity to innovate, reduce waste, and create value from resources we already possess. By rethinking how we design, produce, and manage materials, we can turn today’s challenges into tomorrow’s competitive advantage.” Said Prof. Chalid as the principal of CSWM UI. The research towards the circularity of the glass and ceramics industry will be followed up with an upcoming FGD that will highlight the offtaker side for the industry which mainly consist of collection centres throughout Indonesia for glass and ceramics products.
