Design for Environment through two perspectives

Jakarta, Indonesia – July 17, 2024 – The Center for Sustainability and Waste Management Universitas Indonesia (CSWM UI) is excited to announce its partnership with Plastics and Rubber Indonesia to host a webinar series aimed at addressing sustainable practices in the plastics and rubber industry. The first webinar, titled “Designing a Greener Indonesia: The Role of DfE (Design for Environment) in Product Development,”

As a prelude to the Plastics and Rubber Indonesia exhibition, CSWM UI hosted a series of informative webinars. These online sessions aimed to address current trends and challenges in the plastics and rubber industry, focusing on sustainable production practices, emerging recycling technologies, and design for environment (DfE) principles.

The first webinar introduced the DfE concept, its core principles, and its latest implementation trends. DfE offers a comprehensive approach to creating products with minimal environmental impact throughout their lifecycle. This session provided real-world examples of DfE implementation in Indonesia, encouraging attendees to explore and plan their DfE initiatives.

The webinar featured Adam Febriyanto Nugraha, S.T., Ph.D., a Material Engineering Lecturer at Universitas Indonesia as a speaker to demystified DfE principles and trends, explained core principles such as design for recyclability and energy efficiency, and discussed the latest advancements in DfE practices globally.

The webinar also featured Rachel Nathasia, public affair and sustainability manager at Amandina Bumi Nusantara who shared her company’s success story in incorporating DfE principles into their product design and development. Not only showcasing product images, design sketches, and photos of the production process to illustrate their approach, Rachel emphasized energy-efficient features and considerations during the product’s use phase, discussing how these initiatives are conveyed to consumers through thoughtful design.

The webinar was attended by industry professionals, decision-makers, and stakeholders of companies interested in sustainable product development. As a part of the prelude of Plastics and Rubber Indonesia 2024, CSWM UI also invites the participant to join future webinars tackling other topics that relate with sustainability and waste management around plastics and rubber in Indonesia.
