Depok, 20 September 2023 – Universitas Indonesia is proud to announce the inauguration of Prof. Dr. Ir. Mochamad Chalid, S.Sc., M.Sc.Eng. as Professor in a grand ceremony that took place on the university campus today. This inauguration commemorates a historic moment in Prof. Dr. Ir. Mochamad Chalid and acknowledged his extraordinary achievements in the field of plastic product sustainability research in Indonesia.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Mochamad Chalid, S.Sc., M.Sc.Eng. is a leading scientist and academic who has made valuable contributions to the development of polymer materials science, especially plastics. “One of the key elements in the sustainability of governance is technology that is appropriate and has good adaptability to Indonesia’s economic, social and cultural life,” said Prof. Chalid. He has dedicated himself to addressing the serious challenges faced by the environment and industry in the country related to plastic products. With more than two decades of experience in the field, Prof. Dr. Ir. Mochamad Chalid has been one of the most respected figures in the search for a sustainable solution to this problem.

His main research is named “Challenges and Opportunities for the Sustainability of Plastic Products in Indonesia.” Through this in-depth research, he has investigated plastic materials, plastic recycling technology, and plastic waste management. Expertise in this field has provided valuable insight to governments, plastic manufacturing industries, recycling industries, waste collectors and scavengers, associations and communities, start-ups and civil society about the steps that can be taken to implement proper plastic waste management. “Facing the rapid development of technology and civilization, the sustainability of this system must be carried out through the development of holistic and integrated studies of various competencies.”

Inauguration of Prof. Dr. Ir. Mochamad Chalid, S.Sc., M.Sc.Eng. as a Professor not only recognizes his success in research into the sustainability of plastic products, but also honors his role as a dedicated teacher. He has guided and inspired hundreds of students to understand and overcome the pressing environmental challenges facing Indonesia.
