The Center for Sustainable Waste Management (CSWM) of Universitas Indonesia (UI) conducted a study visit to Jangjo, an innovative recycling company based in West Jakarta. The visit aimed to learn Jangjo’s best practices in optimizing a recycling system with limited land and producing value-added products.
Led by Yuli Amalia Husnil, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., the CSWM UI team was warmly welcomed by the Jangjo team. During the visit, the CSWM UI team had the opportunity to witness Jangjo’s recycling process firsthand, from waste sorting and material processing to the creation of final products.
Despite occupying only a 2,000-square-meter area, Jangjo’s efficient management system allows them to recycle almost all types of waste except for hazardous waste (B3). The company produces various value-added products from waste, including maggot feed, fertilizer, Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), and Refused Derived Fuel (RDF).
One of the captivating innovations showcased by Jangjo was the creation of table legs from reprocessed Multi-Layered Plastic (MLP) and Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) through extrusion. These table legs exemplify Jangjo’s ability to transform waste into useful and economic products.
This visit opens doors for future collaboration between CSWM UI and Jangjo. Both parties are committed to working together to develop innovative solutions for more sustainable waste management in Indonesia.
