CSWM UI Collaborate with BEM UI and Indonesia Asri to Advance Circular Campus Initiative

Depok, 22 October 2026 — The Center for Sustainability and Waste Management, Universitas Indonesia (CSWM UI), together with Indonesia Asri by Chandra Asri Group and the Universitas Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM UI), held Jejak Asri on the Move with UI at Balai Apung, Universitas Indonesia.

The initiative brought together students, university representatives, academia, and industry to explore how circular economy principles can be translated into practical action within the campus environment. Through the concept of a Circular Campus, the program highlighted sustainable waste management, responsible consumption, resource efficiency, and active participation from the university community.

As part of the program, CSWM UI introduced its Seven Sustainability Aspects framework, covering leadership, awareness, infrastructure, regulation, technology, organization, and financing. The framework provided a structured lens to identify gaps between ideal conditions and existing waste management practices at UI, while encouraging participants to explore potential solutions and areas for improvement.

“Building a Circular Campus is not something that can be achieved by one institution or one stakeholder alone. It requires a shared commitment where academic knowledge, campus operations, industry experience, and student participation come together to turn sustainability ideas into solutions that can actually be implemented.”  Adam Febriyanto Nugraha, Vice Principal of CSWM UI said.

The discussion also connected perspectives from CSWM UI, the Directorate of Operations and Facility Maintenance of Universitas Indonesia (DOPF UI), Chandra Asri Group, and students, creating a collaborative space to examine both existing challenges and opportunities for circular economy implementation at UI.

Beyond raising awareness, Jejak Asri on the Move with UI serves as an initial step toward developing more actionable recommendations. Insights generated through the discussion are expected to contribute to the development of a policy brief on waste management at Universitas Indonesia, while opening opportunities for continued collaboration between academia, industry, university management, and the student community.

Through this collaboration, CSWM UI aims to strengthen the role of universities as living laboratories for sustainability—where circular economy ideas can be discussed, tested, and progressively implemented, while generating practices that may inspire similar initiatives across other higher education institutions.
